The story
'Light' is a non-narrative piece which primarily came out of the desire to shoot direct sunlight and also the idea of the sound of the sun. Beyond that the film was not written ahead of time and was created out of an organic process of choosing images and timing directly in the editing process. It shows the point of view of someone drawn to the window to see the rising sun, which drowns out all other sounds and experiences. But the real world rudely intrudes, and finally the question of "is this a dream?" comes out. Any deeper interpretation was not noticed until after the film was completed and screened.

Tech
'Light' was put together from various early shoots made with a Canon ZR900 miniDV camera, and it was edited in iMovie 08. Even though it was shot through a window, the lens did begin to smoke at one point. Transitions at different time durations were used to create the blinking eye effect, and grainy, low-light video was used for the blackout instead of adding a solid black transition in post. The original score was created with an M-Audio Key Rig 25 keyboard and GarageBand 08. The film's total budget was $375.
